The Siemens Story

Siemens & Halske (S&H) was a major German engineering company that later became part of Siemens. The company was founded in 1847 when Werner von Siemens and Johann Georg Halske jointly acquired an electro-technical work in Berlin and named it "Werner & Halske".

The company's first major product was a telegraph. In 1851 Siemens & Halske began building locomotives, and within a few years, it had become the largest engineering company in Germany. About 12% of total corporation sales come from the medical health care division and medical diagnostics equipment.
